Euthanasia means "mercy killing," but Hitler twisted the meaning to mean the killing of people who he thought should die. The people that he thought should die were mentally and physically challenged or had something wrong with or just people in different religions. The euthanasia program was Germany’s the first mass murder program. The T-4 program came from the address Tiergartenstrasse 4(Friedlander,Web). 50,000 to 60,000 adults and children were killed by lethal injections or in gas chambers designed to look like shower stalls between December 1939 and August 1941.
These people were put to death after being in medical institution. This program started in 1939 and ended in 1941. Three straight years of painless killing of people that Hitler thought were not worth living(The T-4 Euthanasia Program,Web). A couple of months later the whole German psychiatric community was involved in this. Once a victim was killed the Nazis sent a death certificate to the family of that victim. These certificates had to be signed by the physician. Some physicians refused to sign the certificates so the family did not know that the victim was killed(Berenbaum,Web).
Buses used to transport patients to Hadamar euthanasia center. The windows were painted to prevent people from seeing those inside. Germany, between May and September 1941.
These are the buses that took patients from place to place to be worked on and as you see the windows are painted white so that no
one else could see what was going with the victims or patients.
